Autoworld’s wheel balancing and aligning news

The John Bean B800P Wheel Balancer

The John Bean B800P Wheel Balancer

Announcing an exclusive automated wheel balancing service! Autoworld is now the proud owner of a John Bean B800P Wheel Balancer at its Impala Service Station.

Autoworld’s new John Bean B800P wheel balancer at Impala Service Station offers automatic data entry and rim profiling.

This sophisticated device is ideal for balancing the wheels of sports cars and any other vehicle that require precision balancing.

More information on the B800P Wheel Balancer:-

Faster training, quicker tyre changes
The B800P speeds up the training of new technicians and reduces the time it takes to change a tyre and balance the wheels. The touchscreen interface makes it easy for technicians to check the results. And when the operator touches the imbalance amount, the wheel automatically turns to the correct position for weight placement!

Touchscreen User Interface
This convenient device has commonly used modes such as spoke detection, match mount and manual mode. Measurement results and weight position indicators are clearly visible.

Automatic Balancer Measurement
It takes about 8 seconds for the B800P to identify the optimal location of any imbalance and identify the best location for the clip-on weight.

Patented Automatic Power Clamp
The wheel is electro-mechanically clamped for increased accuracy.

easyWEIGHT
A laser beam pinpoints the positioning of weights in the lower rim position (the B800P's exclusive easyWEIGHT facility).

Other wheel and tyre news from Autoworld:

  • John Bean B340P wheel balancers are now installed in all other Autoworld branches in Lusaka.

  • For wheel alignment, Autoworld uses a 3D car wheel aligner that also comes from market leaders John Bean. This is the Visualiner 3D Lite Lift.

  • Whenever you buy tyres from any Autworld outlet, you’ll get free fitting and a free wheel balancing service (on a John Bean B340P wheel balancer).

  • Nitrogen air is available for pumping into your tyres (at Impala Service Station only). By inflating your tyres with high purity nitrogen, they will remain at their proper operating pressure much longer.

  • For auto repair shops, Autoworld sells John Bean B100 model wheel balancers, as well as John Bean Visualiner 3D Lite Lift wheel aligners.

The single most important factor in ensuring trouble-free motoring in Africa

You can change the air filter yourself - or go to the professionals ...

As Jaguar Land Rover Academy's Trevor Drawwater says, "In Africa, filter maintenance is the single most important factor in ensuring trouble-free motoring." If you get that right, then a big percentage of your vehicle worries will never even start! The two golden rules are:

1) Replace all three filters regularly (air, fuel and oil)
2) Always use a good quality filter brand

So why is it so important to keep changing the filters?
In Africa we get a lot of dust. Your vehicle's air filter has to absorb all that dust from the air sucked into the engine, purifying it before it reaches the engine's delicate parts. Secondly the fuel may not always be as pure as it should be. This time the fuel filter has to set to work purifying the fuel. Thirdly Africa tends to be hot. So the oil filter has to do a perfect job, as the oil going into the system has to transfer the heat out as well as grease the engine's moving parts.

All in all, filters need to be in tip-top condition to ensure a car engine is able to function optimally.

Why GUD?
The quality of GUD Filters is audited regularly by OEMs to ensure their specific requirements are met; and they have achieved the coveted Ford Q1 Status. In addition, the South African Bureau of Standards regularly assesses GUD Filters to TS 16949: 2009.

Autoworld is offering a generous 15% off all GUD filters this month, starting Thursday 3rd march 2016. So now's a 'gud' time to replace your filters! You can do it yourself, but it may be a better idea to go to the professionals. This service is available at all Autoworld branches except for Buseko in Lusaka.

Have an 'easy start' right through winter!

Autoworld mechanic and electrician Herman Mubbunu

Is your vehicle battery giving you an ‘easy start’ during these winter months?

We realise the importance of having a reliable vehicle that starts first time. If this is an issue on a cold morning, perhaps your battery needs some attention to keep it alive. It’s a real inconvenience to get in your vehicle in the early morning rush, kids in the car and time ticking for you to get to work on time, and all you hear is a horrible “click”! That noise indicates the battery voltage is too low to start the car. You’re definitely going to be late ….

This month we're giving our customers an ‘easy start’ to help ensure their cars start first time and just as soon as they turn on the ignition. We are offering the full range of Hi-FASE batteries at 15% discount from 9th July to 15th July 2015!

How do I know if my battery is in good order?

We have more good news for you. At our Freedom Way fitment centre we can test your charging system on your vehicle and your battery condition - while you wait. Our equipment will report the voltage that your alternator is giving out (which is most important in prolonging battery life).  The equipment will also test your battery’s condition and identify any cells that might be damaged. All this information can be presented on a print out. (We will have this equipment at all our other fitment centres in the near future.)

Our fitment centre can help with all your battery needs, ensuring your car always has an easy start

Visit our Freedom Way fitment centre for your charging system to be fully tested. If you know that your charging system is in good order but you would specifically like to check your old battery, we can also help you with a battery test!

  1. The charging system test costs just ZMW120.00
  2. The battery test costs just ZMW50.00
  3. Battery fitting is free of charge if the battery has been purchased at any Autoworld branch

At the same time our staff will check your battery terminals and battery water levels (distilled water levels) ensuring your battery remains in good condition. If anything needs replacing:-

  • A good set of battery terminals (made of brass) costs just ZMW30
  • We also have single battery terminals (negative and positive) costingZMW15 each
  • Lastly we have battery water (distilled water) in two sizes - 750ml and 2.5l - costing ZMW6 and ZMW13 respectively

Note: All prices are inclusive of 16% VAT

A few helpful points to ensure you keep your battery in good working order:

  • Battery terminals - Make sure the battery terminals are clean and free from corrosion. It’s advisable to grease the battery terminals each time your vehicle has a routine service to avoid terminals from corroding. All Autoworld branches stock best quality brass terminals.
  • Battery water (distilled water) - Check battery water level at least once a month. Ensuring that all the cells are full of battery water will avoid the danger of battery cells boiling, which permanently damages the battery. The battery cells should not be over filled; the distilled water level should be just above the plates in each battery cell. Our fitment centres can help with this.
  • Treacle battery charger (smart charger) - Never store batteries for long periods of time without charging them up regularly. This shortens the life span of a battery significantly, even if it is brand new.

More about the Treacle smart charger

If you have a recreational vehicle, boat or motor cycle that is not used on a regular basis, it is advisable to connect its battery to a treacle smart charger. This is a battery charger that is permanently connected to a 220v power supply as well as the negative and positive terminals of the vehicle's battery while it is stored away. The charge of the battery is permanently kept above 12v. As soon as the battery drops below 12v then the charger automatically begins to charge the battery. Once the battery has reached 12v the charger will immediately turn off. This charger can be left connected for very long periods of time and will protect your battery from permanent damage. Smart chargers are available from our Autoworld Downtown Marine shop branch for just ZMW650.

We trust this information has been useful to you. Visit out fitment centres and Autoworld stores for your Hi-FASE battery. Check out our incredible July 2015 Hi-FASE battery offer.

Wishing all our customers an ‘easy start’ experience right through the winter!

Getting the Right Tyre Pressure

Today we're hearing from one of our Managing Directors, Pierre Findlay, on the importance of ensuring your tyres have the right pressure as well as a quick and simple way of achieving this.

If you're pretty tyre savy you will most probably be able to look at your tyres and gauge using just your eyes whether your tyre pressure is right.  For most of us though, it's a really good idea to use a tyre pressure gauge to check your pressure (preferably when the tyres are cold) to see whether a trip to your nearest garage is necessary.  At all of our Autoworld branches we stock a wide range of inexpensive tyre pressure gauges.  These little gadgets can be stored in your car tool box or in the glove compartment.  They are incredibly easy to use and vitally important for ensuring you get the best performance and safety out of your tyres.

All tyre brands come with a recommended tyre PSI and you will find this information written on the actual tyre itself or within your vehicle's manual.  Running a tyre either below or above it's recommended tyre pressure can be both dangerous and inefficient leading to problems such as:

  • a reduction in the life span of the tyre

  • a reduction in the fuel economy of the vehicle

  • unnecessary blow outs

  • a reduction in the alignment of the tyre

At Autoworld we would recommend that you check your tyre pressure (including the spare tyre) at least once a month and having one of these tyre pressure gauges makes that task really simple.  If you're not up for doing the checking yourself you can always pop into one of our Autoworld Fitment Centres.  One of our technicians will be happy to check your tyre pressure and if necessary, fill it with air at no expense.

We like to keep Zambia moving and we want to keep it moving safely by encouraging you to take responsibility.
